Service Interruptions

Due To Hazardous Road Conditions As Well As The Safety Of Our Drivers & The General Public, The Following Dates Had Interruptions In Service.

WEATHER UPDATE 2/27/2023

– Thursday and Friday residential customers who should have had garbage collected last week (2-23 & 2-24) should be completed as of Monday afternoon. Please call us at the office if your garbage was out and not collected, we will work with you to reschedule.
– Thursday and Friday recycling and compost from last week will not be made up until your regular scheduled day this week. See our FAQ page on our website on how to properly prepare double volume for us to collect at no charge under the “What Happens During Inclement Weather” topic. There is no credit for missed collection due to hazardous weather.
– Monday compost (2/27 ) was cancelled for all neighborhoods as these drivers were needed to catch up on last weeks garbage as garbage is the priority. We will take double volume compost next Monday at no charge.
– SW customers expect delays on garbage collection Monday (2/27), Tuesday (2/28) & Wednesday (3/1) this week. Many streets still have packed ice on them and are not safe to drive on. Just leave your garbage at the curb and we will keep attempting each day until we are caught up. We hope to be caught up by Wednesday afternoon. If you have not been serviced for garbage by then, please call our office and we will take care of you.
Thank you for your patience while we all had to deal with this and kudos to all the drivers that showed up every day and got the work done safely!!

WEATHER UPDATE 2/25/2023

We did go out today and attempted what we safely could for residential and commercial accounts. That being said, access to some neighborhoods was still a ”no go”.
Please just continue to leave your garbage at the curb and we will get to you as soon as we can. This might include playing catch up Sunday, Monday and into Tuesday.
Recycling and compost from last Thursday and Friday are officially cancelled until next week. Check out our FAQ page on our website for more info such as how to properly prepare extra recycling and compost to be taken at no charge at your next collection.

WEATHER UPDATE FRIDAY 2/24 1:00pm

***MAKE UP SCHEDULE PLAN***
It is looking like we will be attempting to pick up GARBAGE only for all Thursday and Friday residential customers starting Saturday morning. Please have your carts at the curb by 6am Saturday 2/25.
Want to help keep your drivers safe? Check out the 👍 and 👎 photos below for cart placement. A garbage man’s day is strenuous enough, but toss in these weather conditions and their day is going to be long, stressful and more danergous than usual. Many side streets and sidewalks are still covered with ice.
If possible:
– Set your garbage cart in the street (instead of the parking strip or sidewalk) in a dry area of cleared pavement.
– Dust off the 6 inches of snow sitting on top of your cart lid.
– If snow/ice is piled in front of your cart, shovel or kick it out of the way
– Space carts at least 1 foot apart from each other if possible.

WEATHER UPDATE FRIDAY 2/24 6:00am

Due to continued weather conditions, all routes are cancelled for the day. Please leave your carts out at the curb, we will be playing catch up soon with garbage being the priority.

WEATHER UPDATE THURSDAY 2/23 6:00am

This fleet is staying parked today! All Thursday routes are cancelled. We will be playing catch up as soon as we can so please leave your carts out. As soon as we have a make up schedule

WEATHER UPDATE THURSDAY 12/26 3:00pm

FRIDAY CUSTOMERS
Good news!! All Friday residential customers garbage from 12/23 was collected today! (If your garbage was not, please call our office so we can work with you). We will be taking double volume recycling and/or compost at no charge Friday 12/30 as these routes will not be caught up before then. (Christmas trees are not included in this no charge scenario).
MONDAY CUSTOMERS
Semi bad news …. no Monday compost routes ran 12/26. We used these drivers and trucks to pick up the Friday garbage customers. We will be making up partial sections of our Monday compost routes on Tuesday the 27th, so please leave your compost cart at the curb until 5pm Tuesday. If you do not see us by then, we will take double volume compost next Monday 1/2/23 at no charge (Christmas trees are not included in this no charge scenario).
Feel free to check out our FAQ page on our website for ideas on how to properly prepare double volume material. Thank you for your understanding and happy holidays!

WEATHER UPDATE THURSDAY 12/26 8:00am

– We are out attempting to catch up all Friday and Saturday routes. (Just a reminder: garbage takes priority and that is our first focus. If you don’t see us by Tuesday for your blue recycling or green compost, that is your signal you will not see us until this Friday 12/30.)
– All Monday compost routes are postponed right now. We are using these drivers and trucks to catch up on Friday and Saturday routes. We will reevaluate once all Friday and Saturday routes are made up to the best of our abilities.

WEATHER UPDATE THURSDAY 12/23 6:00am

WEATHER UPDATE FRIDAY 12/23 6am All routes are cancelled for today and our office will be closed. Make up schedule coming soon. Stay safe out there!

WEATHER UPDATE THURSDAY 12/22 3:20pm

– We ran all residential routes as normal today. We experienced a lot of compost carts that were frozen from wet material and would not empty all the way. If this happened at your house, we will take double volume next Thursday at no charge (x mas trees are not included in this scenario).
– As of now, we hope to run all routes as normal on Friday. If there is a weather event Thursday night/Friday morning, our voicemail (extension 4), this page and our website will be updated as soon as I can.
– If there is a weather event overnight, our message is always the same during inclement weather. Set out on your normal day by 6am. ***LEAVE YOUR GARBAGE AT THE CURB UNTIL IT IS PICKED UP***. We would normally run on weekends to play catch up, but everyone deserves to be with their loved ones on the holidays, so we will NOT be working this weekend if there is a Friday delay. This means we hope to catch up Friday garbage Monday and Tuesday next week.
– Stay tuned come Friday morning for an update! Stay warm out there!!

Week Of February 15, 2021 Announcement

WEEK OF 2/15: Due to unsafe road conditions, we cancelled all Monday routes. To make up for this, we are going to run all routes ONE DAY DELAYED ALL WEEK. Our work week will be Tuesday through Saturday this week, essentially using a holiday schedule. This means:
– Monday customers will be serviced Tuesday
– Tuesday customers will be serviced Wednesday
– Wednesday customers will be serviced Thursday
– Thursday customers will be serviced Friday
– Friday customers will be serviced Saturday
– Saturday customers will be serviced Sunday
We might potentially have to pull compost and/or recycle drivers on Tuesday to catch up on any Friday 2/12 and Saturday 2/13 garbage customers that were not able to be serviced.
Through any hazardous weather, our message remains the same – LEAVE YOUR GARBAGE AT THE CURB UNTIL IT IS COLLECTED. We will get to it no matter what, even if it takes us a couple of days. Garbage is always the priority.
If your blue recycling or green compost have not been collected within 2 days of your normal collection day, this is your signal we will not be able to make up these routes. We will gladly take double volume no charge the next week as there is no credit given for missed pick up due to hazardous weather.

February 15, 2021 Announcement

All routes cancelled for Monday, February 15th. Make up schedule coming soon. I hope to have it posted by 5pm. Our office is also closed today but I will be checking voicemails remotely for anything that needs immediate attention.

February 14, 2021 Announcement

Monday 2/15: We do not yet know which routes (if any) will be ran on Monday. We need to see what the weather does over night and we will assess road conditions in the morning. If you can safely put your carts at the curb, please do so, but only if you safely can. As soon as a determination is made for Monday routes, we will have facebook, website page and voicemail updated! Stay tuned

February 12, 2021 Announcement

Friday Feb 12th: We are on the road and attempting to pick up almost everyone’s garbage today! **If you are a Friday customer in the Hollywood/Rose City Park neighborhood, your garbage should be collected this coming Monday. Please leave your cart at the curb. Through any hazardous weather, our message to the customer is always the same: LEAVE YOUR GARBAGE OUT AT THE CURB UNTIL IT IS EMPTIED. Garbage is the priority to be serviced first and we will get to it no matter what – even if this makes us a couple of days! If your blue recycling and green compost carts are not emptied within 2 days of your normal collection day, this is your signal these routes will not be made up until the following week on your normal scheduled day. There is no credit for missed collection due to hazardous weather, but we are happy to collect double volume of compost and/or recycling at no charge that next week. Stay safe and warm out there!

September 13, 2020 Announcement

  • Tuesday customers will be picked up Wednesday
  • Wednesday customers will be picked up Thursday
  • Thursday customers will be picked up Friday
  • Friday customers will be picked up Saturday

Tuesday February 5th, 2019

Feb 5th: residential collection: we are attempting to run residential garbage routes today. All blue recycling and green composting routes have been cancelled for today due to hazardous weather.Through any hazardous weather, our message is always the same. Leave your garbage out at the curb until it is picked up.

The garbage is our priority and we will get to it no matter what. If your blue recycling and green composting carts are not emptied within 2 days of your normal collection day, this is your signal these routes will not be made up until the following week. At that time, we will take double volume at no charge as per city rules, there is no credit given for missed collection due to hazardous weather.

Friday February 3rd, 2017 : Update

FEB 3rd: All Friday residential garbage, recycling and compost collection has been suspended until Saturday. **The exception is the St John’s area – garbage and recycling will be collected Friday but compost will be Saturday** Please leave all your containers at the curb and we will be by to empty them as soon as we safely can.

Friday February 3rd, 2017

FEB 3rd: ATTEMPTING DELAYED START FOR RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE, RECYCLING AND COMPOST. Leave all your cans and carts at the curb today as normal. Routes should be completed by 4pm. Updates to come if this changes.

Friday January 20th, 2017

JAN 20th: FRIDAY RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE WILL BE RUNNING AS NORMAL. WE WILL ALSO BE GETTING THE REST OF TUESDAY RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE AND THE FRIDAY SW ROUTE FROM LAST WEEK. Make sure your can/cart is at the curb by 6am! Our hope is to start running Friday residential recycling, but compost looks unlikely as we need these drivers to help pick up the delayed garbage.

Thursday January 19th, 2017

JAN 19TH: ALL THURSDAY RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE WILL BE COLLECTED, AS WELL AS ALL MONDAY RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE AND HALF OF THE TUESDAY RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE. We will get the rest of the Tuesday residential garbage on Friday. No make up routes scheduled yet for missed recycling and compost. Since garbage is the priority, we are needing to use the recycling and compost drivers to get caught up on the missed garbage. Just leave your garbage out at the curb until it is picked up! 🙂

Wednesday January 18th, 2017

JAN 18TH: WE ARE GOING TO ATTEMPT ONLY RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE COLLECTION FOR WEDNESDAY CUSTOMERS. Please make sure your garbage can/cart is at the curb by 6am. Hopefully, we will be able to start making up Monday and Tuesday garbage on Thursday – update to come by Wednesday night. Just leave that garbage can/cart at the curb until it is picked up! 🙂

Tuesday January 17th, 2017: Update

JAN 17TH: ALL RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE, RECYCLING AND COMPOST ROUTES ARE CANCELLED. LEAVE YOUR GARBAGE AT THE CURB UNTIL IT IS PICKED UP. The garbage is our priority and we will get to it as soon as we safely can. The street in front of your house might be clear, but most roads to, from and around your neighborhood are just not safe with this packed ice and a very good chance of freezing rain called for Tuesday. We have to keep in mind the safety of our employees driving on route as well as getting in and out of the truck at each house and the safety of the general public. If your recycling and compost are not picked up within 2 days of your normal scheduled collection day, this is your signal these routes will not be made up until your next scheduled collection day. As there is no credit for missed collection due to hazardous weather, we will take double volume recycling and/or compost on your next scheduled collection day at no additional charge. As soon as we have any make up routes scheduled, those will be posted here and on our website at www.heiberggarbage.com so please check back daily. Thank you for your continued patience and understanding as we all deal with these weather conditions.

Tuesday January 17th, 2017

JAN 17th: No residential routes are cancelled as of yet. There is a chance they might be if we get freezing rain Monday night and/or Tuesday morning. If you are a Tuesday customer, please have your carts out at the curb by 6am. I will have this page, our outgoing voicemail, and website updated Tuesday morning if any routes are cancelled or postponed. Stay tuned!

Monday January 16th, 2017: Update

MON JAN 16th: ALL RESIDENTIAL ROUTES ARE CANCELLED FOR GARBAGE, RECYCLING AND COMPOST. There is still too much ice on the roads for our drivers to operate safely. This decision is made not only for the safety of our drivers, but the safety of the general public as well. LEAVE YOUR GARBAGE AT THE CURB UNTIL IT IS PICKED UP. Garbage is the priority and we hope to have the garbage caught up by mid week. If your recycling and compost is not collected within 2 days of your normal collection day, this is your signal these routes will not be made up until your next scheduled collection day. There is no credit given for missed collection due to hazardous weather so we are happy to take double volume of your recycling and compost at no additional charge the following week if these routes are not made up within 2 days. Thank you for your understanding and patience during these weather conditions.

Saturday January 14th, 2017: Update

Almost everyone’s garbage has been picked up! Friday garbage ran on Friday and today, Saturday, we were able to complete all of the Wednesday and Thursday garbage routes. The only garbage that has not been serviced yet is the Friday SW area and 3 streets from the Thursday SW route. Make up schedule for these customers coming soon. Stay tuned for what we hope to collect on Monday – should be posted by Sunday late afternoon/early evening. Thanks again for your patience and understanding!

Saturday January 14th, 2017:

SAT JAN 14th: WE ARE GOING TO ATTEMPT TO COLLECT ALL WEDNESDAY AND THURSDAY RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE INCLUDING THE SW AREA. THE ONLY ROUTE THAT DOES NOT HAVE A MAKE UP SCHEDULE YET FOR GARBAGE IS THE FRIDAY RESIDENTIAL SW AREA. Update to come soon. Please make sure your garbage can/cart is at the curb by 6am. It would be a great help if there is clear access to your garbage can/cart instead of it being away from the cleared part of the street and blocked on all sides by snow. Your drivers are working hard and doing a great job! Just stepping off and on the truck at each house is a hazard for them with the packed snow and slippery ice. Anything you can do to help them stay safe is greatly appreciated! A huge THANK YOU to all of our customers who have been understanding during this week of weather! We really appreciate your patience!

Friday January 13th, 2017:

FRI JAN 13th: WE ARE GOING TO ATTEMPT ALL FRIDAY RESIDENTIAL GARBAGE EXCEPT SW AREA. Please have your garbage can/cart out by 6am. Clear access to your cart from the road would really help out your hard working drivers! Friday recycling and compost routes have been cancelled.

Thursday January 12th, 2017:

THURSDAY JAN 12th: ONLY MAYWOOD PARK GARBAGE IS BEING COLLECTED. ALL OTHER RESIDENTIAL ROUTES ARE CANCELLED. Leave your garbage at the curb until it gets picked up, even if this means for days. Garbage is our priority since it is only picked up every 2 weeks. You can leave your blue recycling and green compost carts at the curb, but if they are not picked up within 2 days of your scheduled day, this is your signal we were not able to make up these routes. We will collect double volume on your next scheduled collection day at no additional charge.

Wednesday January 11th, 2017:

WED Jan 11th Customers: All RESIDENTIAL ROUTES ARE CANCELLED Leave your garbage at the curb until it gets picked up, even if this means for days. Garbage is our priority since it is only picked up every two weeks. You can leave your blue recycling and green compost cart at the curb, but if they are not picked up within 2 days of your scheduled day, this is your signal we were not able to make up those routes. We will collect double volume on your next scheduled collection day at no additional charge.

Monday January 9th, 2017

MON Jan 9th Customers:  Due to hazardous road conditions as well as the safety of our drivers and the general public, the following areas  had an interruption in service.

  • Argay Terrace area:  Garbage, recycling and compost routes were cancelled.  We plan to collect your garbage Tues Jan 10th.  Please make sure your can/cart(s) are at the curb by 6am.  We will make our best effort to come by for your recycling and compost but garbage is the priority.  If your blue recycling and green compost cart are not emptied within a day or two, this means we were not able to service these carts and will take double volume next week on your regular pick up day at no additional charge.
  • SW Portland: 80% of the route was serviced for garbage while recycling and compost routes were cancelled.  For those customers who did not get a garbage pickup, leave your can/cart(s) at the curb Monday night and we will be by Tues Jan 10th.  If your blue recycling and green compost cart are not emptied within a day or two, this means we were not able to service these carts and will take double volume next week on your regular pick up day at no additional charge.
  • Madison South area: This was not a garbage week but recycling and compost routes were cancelled.  Please leave your blue recycling and green compost cart at the curb and we will make our best effort to come by for your recycling and compost.  If your blue recycling and green compost cart are not emptied within a day or two, this means we were not able to service these carts and will take double volume next week on your regular pick up day at no additional charge.

Mon Sept 4th & Tues Sept 5th

Due to the prediction of extreme heat (again) and the continuation of poor air quality, residential routes will begin at 4 AM. Please make sure your carts are at the curb by 4 AM or the night before collection. Normal collection days are NOT changing or being delayed due to the holiday weekend.

Please Keep In Mind We Try To Do What We Can To Disrupt The Fewest Number Of Customer’s Schedules As Possible. City Rules Has Us Making Garbage The Priority, Then Recycling And Finally Compost. If You Have More Questions, Please Feel Free To Call Our Office At 503-794-8212
